Florida softball coach Tim Walton, Auburn SS Haley Fagan push each other in handshake line
The drama didn’t end with the final out of Auburn’s series finale at Florida on Monday night.
Gators coach Tim Walton and Tigers shortstop Haley Fagan pushed each other in a heated exchange during the handshake line following No. 4 Auburn’s 1-0 win over No. 2 Florida.
Video of the incident shows Fagan, who was leading Auburn’s players through the handshake line, did not have her hand up and Walton appears to slightly push Fagan’s right shoulder with his forearm.
Fagan turns around and pushes Walton on the back and the two exchange words before the Gators coach resumes congratulating Auburn’s players. Fagan then begins verbally jarring with others out of view of the television cameras and was restrained by teammates Casey McCrackin and Jenna Abbott.
Spokesmen for Auburn, Florida and the SEC did not respond to a request for comment about the incident.
There is history between Walton and the Fagan family.
Haley Fagan’s older sisters, Sami and Kasey, played for the Gators but were dismissed by Walton dismissed them and Cheyenne Coyle for unspecified reasons hours before the 2012 NCAA Tournament. At the time, Kevin Fagan told the Gainesville Sun the dismissal of his two daughters and Coyle was due to an “altercation on the team” and Sami and Kasey Fagan transferred to Missouri and Arkansas, respectively.
Kasey Fagan and Coyle are now graduate assistants at Auburn.
