Alabama practice report: Where’s Minkah Fitzpatrick?
Alabama’s second practice of the preseason Friday was conducted in shells and shorts with the outside temperature 85 degrees.
Here are some observations gleaned from the limited access period provided to the media:
— The right side of the first-team offensive line consisted of Matt Womack at tackle and Lester Cotton at guard.
— Minkah Fitzpatrick continued to work with the cornerbacks. In a base look, he lined up at an outside position opposite Anthony Averett. Because of Fitzpatrick’s versatility, watching where he is positioned at practice will become an exercise akin to a “Where’s Waldo?” hunt. In the spring, he was at safety. Last year, he began the season at Star.
— Freshman Kedrick James, who worked with the linebackers Thursday, was at tight end — the position he is listed at on Alabama’s roster.
— In an interesting development, Hootie Jones lined up in a formation as the fifth defensive back closer to the line of scrimmage and below the two safeties.
— Damien Harris led the running back drills. He was followed by Bo Scarbrough and freshmen Najee Harris and Brian Robinson.
— The order of the outside linebackers went as follows: Christian Miller, Anfernee Jennings, Jamey Mosley, Mekhi Brown, Ben Davis and VanDarius Cowan.
— In the early part of practice, flags are set up for the receivers, who run abbreviated routes through them.
