Alabama practice report: Notes, observations on RBs, young DBs

Alabama practice report: Notes, observations on RBs, young DBs

It rained again Monday afternoon, but it didn’t send the Alabama football team indoors for their practice.

Here’s what we saw in the media viewing window:

— Running back Josh Jacobs was not spotted. He’s dealing with a hamstring injury, Nick Saban said after Saturday’s scrimmage.

— On the flip side, Najee Harris was out there and running fine after being slowed by a hamstring pull Saturday.

— It looked like Alex Leatherwood was with the second group at left tackle with Jedrick Wills at right tackle. Saban had good things to say about both after the scrimmage Saturday.

— All the other players who were in black last week — VanDarius Cowan and Jamey Mosley — were fine and practicing with their groups.

— When practicing in the dime formation, Minkah Fitzpatrick was the dime back (sixth DB) while Hootie Jones was back at safety in his place.

— With the second group, Daniel Wright and Bo Grant were shadowing at safety while Keaton Anderson was shadowing at nickel/dime. Levi Wallace was at corner with that second unit.

— Players were in full pads after getting Sunday as their second off day since practice opened. They have an evening practice Tuesday.

— The temperature wasn’t too bad or overly muggy after the rain. Saban said after the scrimmage that the weather conditions in practices forced indoor workouts, leaving them not as accustomed to the heat that afternoon. There’s one more scrimmage this coming Saturday in Bryant-Denny Stadium.
